Ethical Leadership - The experience of JCU's 3rd IBD cohort

MBA Hong Kong – Wallace Law

University: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

1) Can you briefly discuss the role of ethical decision-making in a business environment in your country?

Generally in Hong Kong, we have a high ethical standard in business environment. We place ethics as a top consideration in business decision, even higher than P&L concern.

2) How has ethical decision-making been incorporated into your school’s curriculum?

We have two courses: "Preparing to lead" (2 credits) and "Businesslaw and ethics" (3 credits) that have emphasize in ethic-related topics. Also, ethics discussions have been made throughout many
courses.

3) Can you describe an ethical challenge in your personal, professional or academic life?

There are no major ethics challenges in my working environment. However, in order to reduce the risk and potential ethic issues, proper procedure is enforced. For example, one of my job duties is the store architecture in my company (which is a European retail business). We have proper means to seek for all suppliers and tender major contractors.
